Dr Peter Preston is a professional statistician and keen golfer. He has been a Senior Statistical Adviser to Golf Australia for about 6 years. He was the principal architect of the Daily Scratch Rating while he was a member of GA’s DSR Statistical Review Group . He conceived and promoted a project to estimate Scratch Ratings and Slope from scores, rather than by measurement of the physical characteristics of golf courses. The mathematical basis of the algorithm proposed was published at the World Statistics Congress 2013.
Nominated by Golf Australia, for 4 years he was a member of the technical team set up under the auspices of the USGA and the R&A to research the new World Handicap System for all golfing countries.
